ABOUT KAJ AND THE STORY
Kaj and the Story is not a new artist launch. It is a resurrection.
First emerging from the Los Angeles Urban Rock Revolution scene, Kaj and the Story built its foundation as a genre-blending rock project with early recognition from AFROPUNK, live-show history at iconic venues including the Whisky a Go Go and House of Blues, and a creative foundation shaped with the help of legendary producer and musician John Barnes.
Kaj’s musical roots run deep. She is the daughter of Mortonette Stephens, a Capitol Records artist and powerhouse vocalist also known professionally as Mortonette, Jodie Mathis, Christie Light, and Vaboom. That lineage of soul, performance, and fearless creative expression lives inside the sound and spirit of Kaj and the Story.
Beyond the stage, Kaj has also helped shape live music spaces in Los Angeles, including hosting the Rock n Park Leimert Park series, creating space for music, culture, community, and independent artistry.
Now reawakened for a new era, Kaj and the Story returns with a cinematic rock-EDM sound layered with funk movement, hip-hop attitude, soulful female lead vocals, and visual storytelling.
The music explores awakening, identity, pressure, memory, rebellion, transformation, and the power of remembering who you are.
Through sound, visuals, and direct-to-fan storytelling, Kaj and the Story creates music that feels like a movie, a movement, and a mirror.
